What cookies are
Cookies are small text files a website stores on your device. Some are needed for the site to work at all. Others are optional, and we only set those if you say yes.
Your choice
When you first visit we ask whether you are happy with analytics cookies. Nothing optional is set unless you accept. You can change your mind at any time:
Strictly necessary cookies
These keep the site working and secure. They cannot be switched off, and they do not track you across other websites.
| Cookie | Set by | Purpose | Expires |
|---|---|---|---|
| braw_consent | This site | Remembers your cookie choice so we stop asking. | 6 months |
| __cf_bm, cf_clearance | Cloudflare | Tells real visitors apart from bots and blocks attacks. | 30 minutes to 1 year |
| wordpress_*, wp-settings-* | WordPress | Only set for logged-in administrators. Never set for ordinary visitors. | Session to 1 year |
Optional analytics cookies
These tell us which pages people actually read. The data is aggregated and we cannot identify you from it. They are only set if you accept.
| Cookie | Set by | Purpose | Expires |
|---|---|---|---|
| _ga | Google Analytics | Distinguishes one visitor from another. | 2 years |
| _ga_D4ZMGY8MF5 | Google Analytics | Keeps track of the current session. | 2 years |
Google's own explanation of how it uses this data is at policies.google.com.
What we do not use
No advertising cookies, no retargeting pixels, no social media trackers, no session recording, and no fingerprinting. Our fonts are served from our own server rather than fetched from Google.
Turning cookies off in your browser
You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. Blocking strictly necessary cookies may stop parts of the site working. aboutcookies.org explains how to do it in each browser.
More detail
How we handle personal data generally is covered in our privacy policy.
